• GENESIS Biomed celebrates its 2025 Annual Symposium with the attendance of more than 110 attendees.

• The event featured the intervention of Josep Lluís Falcó, CEO of the company, who addressed the trends and challenges of the sector; Andreu M. Climent, CEO of CORIFY, as a success story of a start-up and with a round table focused on the current state of innovation in health in the national ecosystem, moderated by the COO of the company, Natalia de la Figuera and with the participation of relevant people from the ecosystem such as: Ana Isabel González (Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid), Manuel Desco (Gregorio Marañón Health Research Institute), Alberto Bermejo (Clave Capital), Andreu Climent (CORIFY) and Izabel Alfany (EIT Health Spain).

On Thursday 15 May, GENESIS Biomed held its 2025 Annual Symposium at the Auditori Antoni Casparrós of the Barcelona Science Park, where the company is headquartered. Founded in May 2017, GENESIS Biomed has reached its eighth year of trajectory, consolidating its position as a key player in the healthcare ecosystem.

In the words of Josep Lluís Falcó, founder and CEO of GENESIS Biomed, “this conference has served as a space for debate and exchange of ideas to find answers and proposals that contribute to strengthening healthcare entrepreneurship, innovation and the growth of the biomedicine ecosystem”.

The event, which brought together more than 110 professionals from the local and national ecosystem, from public entities and private companies, began with a speech by Falcó himself, who addressed the main trends in healthcare entrepreneurship and the challenges facing the sector in Spain. Among the topics highlighted were the impact of the EU Artificial Intelligence Regulation (EU 2024/1689), and the role of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) as a decentralised network to improve access to data in research and personalised medicine. The evolution of “X-as-a-Service” business models and the Gain Sharing model as the latest trend of market access based on value and savings at a systemic level were also discussed. In addition, the bottom-up approach was presented as a strategy for scaling technologies from hospitals to national health systems.

As a central part of the event, the success story of Corify Care, a spin-off of the Fundación de Investigación Biomédica del Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón and of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, led by Andreu M. Climent, which has developed the fastest and most global non-invasive cardiac mapping system on the market, doubling the success rate in complex arrhythmia ablations, was presented. Climent shared his entrepreneurial experience, stressing the importance of listening to all players in the ecosystem, seizing opportunities and learning from failures to achieve success.

The day concluded with a round table moderated by Natalia de la Figuera, COO of GENESIS Biomed, focused on the current state of innovation in health in the national ecosystem, which brought together leading personalities from the sector, such as Ana Isabel González (Ministry of Health), Manuel Desco (Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón), Alberto Bermejo (Clave Capital) and Izabel Alfany (EIT Health Spain), who was also joined by Andreu M. Climent himself. Among the topics discussed were the secondary use of data in health, the regulatory challenges for spin-offs and start-ups, the burdensome cost of patents for spin-offs/start-ups, and the importance of public-private collaboration to promote advanced therapies. The round table was completed with a question-and-answer session from the audience.

The event ended with an agape, offering attendees the opportunity to continue talking and strengthening connections in this ecosystem which, year after year, is consolidating as a fundamental pillar for innovation in health, contributing not only to improving people’s quality of life, but also to boosting economic growth.
